After pouring molds for each individual part of the Korra figure, I had to cut open each mold and remove the original parts. While doing that, I found that some molds had too many air bubbles to be used, and I also accidentally damaged some of the parts while cutting them out even though I was being extremely careful. So at this point I'm even further back than I was before with the figure. I've got to re-sculpt Korra's sash, fix one lower arm, and also fix one of her hands.
At this point I'm just extremely frustrated with the whole thing and I almost just want to finish it for myself. That would mean that I wouldn't be able to make any duplicates for anyone else though. I understand that a lot of you would like a completed figure of your own and I really want to be able to do that, but it's just looking very unlikely at this point. I'm not able to successfully make all the necessary molds and without some of the resources like a pressure pot and resin dyes, I don't think I can do it myself and have them look the way I'd like. the problem is that I can't find anyone that is willing to do a molding/casting job this large. There are over 30 individual pieces, some of which are very small, and that seems to scare everyone off. And now I know why!
It's also frustrating for me because I want to see this Korra figure completed more than anyone else and the whole process from design to sculpting with the intention of making duplicates to sell is EXTREMELY time consuming. If I was just making this figure for myself and wasn't worrying about any of that stuff, I could have had it finished over a year ago. Heck, I could have had even more figures done by now! I've got parts all put aside to make Mako, Asami, and a young Korra that I'd just like to get finished.
So as of now, I think I may just work on other figures but not sculpt them with the intention to make duplicates to sell. Since Korra is already sculpted in a way that makes the creation of duplicates easier, I'll hold off a little longer and hope I can find someone to make molds and cast the parts. If anyone knows of people who do molding/casting of figurines of any kind, let me know and I'll get in touch with them.
In the mean time, just be patient and keep your fingers crossed that I'll eventually get duplicates of Korra made to sell. Assuming I can get duplicates made, I'll probably just end up auctioning them off since there will be only a small number and a lot of people have expressed interest.
I know this update may disappoint a lot of people so I do apologize for that. I also want you all to know that seeing action figures of all the Korra characters and the Last Airbender characters that never got figures (Katara, Toph, Azula, Iroh, etc.) is my dream. I'm working towards making that a reality and I hope that in a few years, it'll actually happen. Here's hoping!
Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays and has a happy and healthy new year!
